When I watched the movie trailer a while ago, I knew this is a must see movie for me. It's not because Mrs. Thatcher agreed with Deng for the Hongkong's turnover, it's not because she is the first female prime minister of Britten, I want to know how the movie can summarize her disputable life in 2 hours and how Meryl Streep set the standard for acting even higher.The acting is extraordinary! Every second of Meryl's act is flawless. She lives in Mrs. Thatcher's soul throughout the movie. We all saw Mrs. Thatcher many times in the news, documentary and pictures. But God, when you see the movie, you watch Meryl, her voice, her gesture and her eyes, you believe that's the iron lady. There is no doubt about it! Living in another soul is a totally different level of acting than just thinking how you would do it if you are that person. For that matter, Brad Pitt, George Clooney and Leonardo DiCaprio have long way to go.On the other hand, i was surprised that the original screenplay got nomination as well. What bothers me most is the balance in this movie. It spent too much time on Mrs. Thatcher's retired life. The worst part it's the sympathy director can not help expressing.You must be kidding me here. We are talking about THE Iron Lady, the only one in our life. How she broke the glass ceiling, how she handled the most challenging time of British history in the second half of 21st century really changed the world. She is getting old, and she will die. Everyone will. If the focus is how she handle the life after power, it could be a good subject as well. <The Queen> did pretty well. But The Iron Lady DOES try to give the audience a summary of Mrs. Thatcher's whole life right from the very beginning. The growing up, the family, the fight, the friendship, the pain, the win and the failure. I bet the director does not understand her. She have no clue what takes a lady to have a life like that. Mrs. Thatcher is as tough as iron. She can be beaten but she never gives up. You can hate her, you can love her, but not sympathize her, NEVER! She has lived her life in full. She may have regrets, she may need help now, but I bet she will have the same choice for her life if she had another chance.Movie is director's view about certain subjects. I'm afraid I can not agree with Phyllida Lloyd. No discrimination, I think her female view point about the iron lady's life only demonstrate that even today few people can understand Mrs. Thatcher. She has much higher goals in her life than us.She said: I have been fighting battles every single day of my life! So, pack your sympathy and try to understand that!
